Young Enterprise Minutes 22/11/10

Face painting was a success! We got £85.20, however there was confusion that perhaps we should have an extra £10 that has gone missing?

The cake sale on Friday break was very successful. We sold everything in a matter of minutes. We still need to total up the amount we took, but Olivia has taken the money to exchange into notes.

The Christmas Sale
Megan’s Mum has finalised that she will be doing Indian head Massages. How long will they be? 10minutes? 15 minutes? I think we agreed on 10minutes and we agreed on charging £5. This will give us time to do more massages, and time to give Megan’s mum a break!
Face painting for the kids, we will charge £2. These will not be neon, just a regular face painting palate.
We discussed the possibility of selling bath bombs, or the spider head massagers. However we discarded these and have settled on the ‘goody bag’ of sweets.
So we will have the 3ft table, and so having a kids corner and an adult corner for the massages.

Other business…
I think there has been a bit of confusion over the money aspect of the team, some perhaps going missing. I think there should be change from the facepaints that we have not got? And some money from the S2 disco that hasn’t appeared. So if Vikram could make sure everything is in order.

Hamish and Megan need to ‘draft’ some posters or advertising posters for what we will put up at the Christmas fair. i.e for the massages and kids things.
I think Oliva and possibly Megan knew about the ‘goody bags’ of sweets for the kids, so if you want to finalise what the cheapest things can go in them.
We need to organise the facepaints for the Christmas Sale, and try and buy some cheap facepaints, that are not neon…just a regular palate.

Minutes- 10th November 2010

Disco:
Everyone involved needs to know prices, what’s available to buy/use, etc.
Meeting at 6.30 in the Mar Hall.
Need to confirm we are actually getting the backdrop for us to put photos on.
If we are, we need posters and photos of designs to put on it.

Teatowels:
We’ve not heard anything about them for a few weeks, what’s happening with them?

Thrift online:
This has been moved to a side project. It sounds as if the thrift shop itself has been cut out of the plan. If they have, do they know?

Christmas Fair:
The YES website says “Each company will be allocated a 6ft table with 2 chairs. It’s up to the company to design and organise their own stall. There will be space for a backdrop and display board but this must align with the width of the table and be no wider.”
We need to plan how we will use this space asap.
There is no electricity available so we can’t print photos.
As soon as we know how much room we have, we need to plan how it is to be laid out.
Need to think of and practice designs.
We could do a “dry run” at school, with teachers getting massages (possibly junior pupils getting their faces painted?)
We need to think about how to advertise the service. We can’t have leaflets or posters, so we could have printed t-shirts or something. From photos of other years, teams seem to have uniforms. It looks really professional, we should think of doing something similar.
We need details of prices, how many masseurs there will be, what they will need, what chairs we need, how long the massages/facepainting will take, etc.

Planning:
Ideally, mini-groups should be meeting outside of YESMC meetings to plan and take care of what needs to be done.
Meetings should really be used to plan what’s happening in the week, and report on what was achieved in the last week.
We don’t seem to be achieving much in meetings. Perhaps they could use a little more structure, actually sticking to the agenda and making sure it has been dealt with would be useful.
Minutes really should be taken during every meeting.
We need to plan things in advance, not just a few weeks before whatever event it is we’re planning for.

Communication:
The whole group really needs to know everything about the company. Finances, prices, our ultimate goals, what services/products we are actually providing..
We really do need to let everyone talk and be a part of discussions too. It seems as though there are people that don’t say a word in meetings.
